Upon answering the door, you find nobody standing in the corridor. Strange, considering how long of a stretch it is to get to the apartment’s stairwell or lift lobby from here. There were, however, the rapid pattering of footsteps echoing through the walls as if someone were running moments before opening the door. Must have been some kids playing a prank on you. But just as you’re about to leave it at that and get on with your life, you find a wooden box down on the floor, near your feet, a box big enough to fit a doll inside it.

Pick the box up and feel the weight of it. It’s too light to contain anything much, but it must’ve been left at your doorstep for a reason. Bring the box into your home, sit down at your desk and slide the lid open. Confusion strikes you as soon as you see the mysterious contents: three cards labeled ‘1’, ‘2’ and ‘3’; a single key; a note; and some vague markings inside engraved into the wood.

First thing first, you pick out the note and read it:

“DO NOT get anybody else involved. No cops, no friends, no family. I am watching you and fully capable of making this much worse on you than it has to be…

Now, begin.”

As might be expected, you get cold sweats after reading the cryptic, intimidating note. Stand up and walk it off. Breathe deeply, slowly. Your legs are shaky, so lie down on your couch for a moment. Clear your head, and now think. Maybe it’s still just a prank, just a long-drawn-out prank is what it is. Darn those kids, bunch of jokers.

But in the case that this is serious, then it’s best you treat it as such; it could, very well, be a matter of life and death. Look into the situation a little further and you should be able to tell if this is a dumb joke or not. Firstly, examine your surroundings. When the note said that you are being watched, what does it mean? Are you being spied on, and for how long? Your own home, a subject of suspicion. No longer do you feel safe within these walls so familiar.

Ease up and go back to your desk. Inspect the box closer. These markings engraved inside are not meaningless. These are… writings. Take the cards and key out of the box so that you can have a clearer view of what are engraved into the box’s insides.

It’s still too hard to read. There must be a way to clarify these words.

Following the location on the tracking device that you’d found, you arrive at a house in the woods, in the middle of nowhere. This house is practically just a concrete block. Grey walls, no windows, and only one heavy door. Park your car beside the red car that’s already there and walk up to the house. You find the password keypad on the door. Read the last of the writings inside the box.
